Saturday October 5 Half Day Striped Bass Charter

Just got back from another good bass trip this morning. Fishing was awesome early on, we always had 3-5 fish on at all times. When the tide slowed down, so did the fishing, but the guys went home with a nice pile of bass to 22 lbs. We also released over 50 blues and around 30 short bass.

Friday October 4 3 Hour Striped Bass Charter

We had an excellent 3 hr bass charter last night with a great group. The group ended up with 15 keeper bass a mess of blues and a bunch of bass we released. Fish were biting the jigs right into the dark and we left them biting.

Monday October 1 2 Night Tuna

We returned yesterday late afternoon from another good trip offshore. The first night was slow with mostly shark bites throughout the night. We landed 1 nice yellow fin in the early morning. The next day on troll we picked up a few albacore and couple mahi. The second night was what made the trip- The first half of the night we battled with more sharks and lost a couple fish close to the boat. In the early morning they started to chew. We had them eating the chum on the surface swimming around the boat and started throwing bait to them. For an hour and a half it was lock and load fishing. All the fish were good sized in the 60-80 lb range. After that it slowed up for us and we started to troll our way home. We picked up another half a dozen albacores before we pulled the lures out. In the end, it was a great trip that got everyone on board to pull on a couple fish and go home with a load of meat. Steven Martinez was the apple bank player of the trip hooking up with 5 yellow fin and jigging up 2 albacore. We have only a couple more open boat trips this month and few open dates for offshore trips this year so call now to get in on the action. Also have some open boat block island bottom fishing trips that have a couple openings. Sundays trip is sold out but there are a couple spots for Wednesday. Call the office for all available dates and booking.

Friday September 27 2 Day Tuna- Local Commercial Fisherman!

We got back out to the edge for a 2 day trip last weekend with a group of local commercial fishermen. It was not a blood bath, but still a good trip to send all the guys home with a handful of yellow fin, a few mahi and mess of northern groupers. We also had a pup sword that we released and another better sword that we pulled the hook on. It was the first trip where we started to see the yellows on the night bite, which was finally nice to see. Overall, it was a good trip with a great group of guys and a lot of laughs. Special thanks to David Tuma from the F/V Kimberly for puting the trip together.
We have a few more open boat tuna trips coming up in October as well as some trip on the Viking Star this month. Call the office for availability and booking info at 631-668-5700.

Friday September 7 36 Hour Tuna Trip

We returned yesterday afternoon from an excellent 36 hour tuna trip with a group of local guys from easthampton. Started off Saturday morning and in the first hour on the troll we had a couple fish in the boat. By 11 am we had a dozen albacore in the boat. Mid day the troll bite slowed down and the guys wanted to try spear fishing so we checked out a bunch of pots for mahi but only found one. That afternoon we got another good shot of fish on the troll bring us up to 21 tuna for the day. The night bite was slow other then a few sharks. Around 5am we hooked up with a big fish and an hour and a half latter we put a 230lb big eye on the deck. Honorable mention to Jason Keyes who fought the fish for well over and hour then jumped in and speared the fish 30 feet down. After we got that fish in the boat we got underway and pick up a yellow fin on the troll home. It was a great trip with an awesome group of guys and everyone went home with tons of tuna loins. We will have some pictures posted soon.
We are heading back out to the edge again Wednesday night and have a few open boat tuna trip threw mid October. For more info on trips and booking give us a call at 631-668-5700 and check us out at vikingfivestar.com.
